Krista Solars started playing classical violin, Suzuki
method, when she was four years old. She began
fiddle music when she was six years old, at the
same time as her two older brothers. Though
neither Krista nor her brothers ever technically had a
teacher especially for fiddle music, their classical
violin teacher said that it might motivate all three of
them to keep practicing the violin in the summer
when there were no lessons, so they all began fiddle
music, as well as continuing with their classical
studies.
In 2004, Krista won first place at the Ohio State
Fiddle Contest in the Junior Division, 18 & Under.
She has also won many other contests throughout
the states of Ohio and West Virginia. In addition to
all the contests and other venues she performed at,
Krista also recorded her first CD in 2004, entitled "A
Little Fiddle". After the apparent success in sales,
Krista decided to record another CD, which is named
"A Little Fiddle 2: Disturbin' The Peace". Krista has
also just released her third fiddle CD, entitled
"Fiddlin' With Dynamite!", which includes her
signature song, "Sweet Georgia Brown".
Krista has been involved in the Akron Youth Symphony (2000-2002), in addition to the Cleveland
Orchestra Youth Orchestra (2002-2006). In 2002, she began studying with Milan Vitek, with whom
she is still taking from. She currently plays in the Oberlin Orchestra, and went with that same
ensemble to play in Carnegie Hall in January of 2007. In January of 2008, Krista gave her first solo
recital, and will give another this coming academic year (see 'Calendar' for the dates of all of Krista's
performances). This fall, Krista will be a junior studying Violin Performance at the Oberlin
Conservatory of Music, and keeping up with her fiddling, as well.
